It is a purified protein administered in a simple non-surgical procedure that temporarily improves the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines of the upper face in people aged 18-65. During treatment, very low doses of BOTOX® Cosmetic are administered via a few tiny injections directly into the muscles that cause those stubborn lines.
BOTOX® Cosmetic works by blocking nerve impulses. This reduces the movement of the muscles that are largely responsible for the frown lines. With less movement, the skin surface gradually smoothes out, and the moderate to severe frown lines between your brows begin to fade.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a quick and minimally invasive treatment. No anesthesia is required for the injection but a cold pack or anesthetic cream may be used prior to administration. The entire procedure takes approximately ten minutes. Discomfort is minimal and brief- most patients compare the sensation to a bug bite. You may resume normal activity immediately.
BOTOX® has been used therapeutically for over 15 years to treat a variety of medical conditions. It is approved in more than 75 countries. BOTOX® for therapeutic use remains one of the most widely researched medicines in the world.
How soon will I see a difference? What kind of results can I expect?
You can expect to see results within days after your treatment. The appearance of the areas may continue to improve for up to 2 weeks. By day 30 in a patient clinical study, 89% of patients judged the severity of their frown lines between their brows as moderate or better. Visible results can last up to four months. After that, you may be ready to return for a follow-up treatment.
How soon will I need a second treatment? What happens if I decide not to continue?
The effect of each treatment can last up to four months. If you decide not to continue with BOTOX® Cosmetic, the areas will eventually go back to their pretreatment appearance.
What are the side effects?
The most common side effects include swelling and bruising which resolves within the first few days. Other side effects include nausea, headache, flu-like symptoms and temporary eyelid/eyebrow droop. Patients with neurological disorder such as ALS, Myasthenia Gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side effects.
How does BOTOX® Cosmetic compare to other options?
Compared to other aesthetic treatment options, BOTOX® Cosmetic is relatively inexpensive. According to a survey by The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, it's one of the least costly facial aesthetic procedures. BOTOX® Cosmetic is the only product of its kind that affects the muscles that cause the wrinkles in the upper face.
